The Most Pathetic Thing About the Miss California Saga
Published May 12, 2009 @ 10:15AM PT

Donald Trump ruled today that Miss California, Carrie Prejean, could keep her crown despite the fact that her boobs are all over the Internets. Whatever. I'm ready for Carrie Prejean's fifteen minutes to be up. Topless photos aside, Miss California's continuous trashing of same-sex marriage is starting to harsh my mellow.
And it doesn't help that she now has Donald Trump doing her bidding when it comes to justifying marriage discrimination. Here's what I think is the saddest part of the whole Miss California storyline, straight from the words of The Donald. Trump had this to say about Carrie Prejean's opposition to same-sex marriage:
It's the same answer that the president of the United States gave.
That wouldn't be so painful to read if it weren't....well, true. It's a bit of a harsh dose of reality that the progressive President of the United States, Barack Obama, is closer to Carrie Prejean on the issue of same-sex marriage than he is to the legislatures of Vermont or Maine.

She wasn't bashing same-sex marriage, she was simply stating her opinion.
Considering the way she was raised it makes perfect sense.
There are a lot of people like that in the world and getting worked up about it really only affects you.

If she had just stopped at "I believe" then it wouldnt have been that big a deal BUT then she wants to go around speaking out against it as though she's an ordained preacher...Uh uh...That goes beyond just speaking your opinion and gets into campaigning against equality.

She's been going around the country speaking out at anti-gay churches, how is that not "bashing same-sex marriage"?
Also Trump is wrong, the President did not call it "opposite marriage" as she did.

Yeah, Donald should know about the sanctity of marriage. He's had....how many???

@ Sean: She did not call it opposite marriage. She said, it's great that in this country you can choose between same-sex marriage and opposite marriage, but in her country, in her family, she believes marriage should be between a man and a woman.
So basically she did give the same answer the President did.

In her country ?
And which country is that ?
Sexual orientation isnt a lifestyle nor can it be chosen.

She simply and sweetly stated, "I don't want to offend anyone" but.....and stated what she believes. Why does it get so taken out of context? The gay people started stirring the pot, not her. I adore her. She has values and sticks to them. I agree with the others. I heard Obama say the exact same thing. I hate people who have double standards.

Gay people have values too. Why do they have to live by Miss California's?

As I said above mr. jones...If she had just kept it to being just her opinion then it wouldnt have mattered BUT then she wants to go around to churches and other anti-gay events in support of that "opinion" which puts her into the preaching arena.
The irony is that she herself had some double standards of her own that even today she wont own up to.

Strikingly, it's unfortunate that President Obama is closer to Carrie Prejean than to the correct view of LGBT rights, however I still have faith in the President on LGBT rights. In addition, the end of Carrie Prejean's 15 minutes of fame is long overdue because of her incorrect view of LGBT rights and because she joined an intolerant campaign for its meritless cause. Trump, although allowing the intolerant pageant to keep her crown, has said the truth.

But here are the differences between her and Obama:
Obama believes everyone should be treated equally under the law (at least in theory)
She is not sure where she stands.
Obama wants full civil unions with all the rights of marriage.
She doesn't know where she stands on that.
-He believes marriage shuold be left to the states and has never really campaigned against marriage equality.
-Campaiging against same-sex marriage seems to now be her number one goal in life.
-His church in Chicago supported gay rights (although that may not be the best example)
- Her church in San Diego believes gay people are an abomination.
-He believes (or knows) that homosexuality is NOT a choice.
- She thinks it's behaviour that develops over time (???)
-Contrary to popular belief that Obama would have voted YES ON 8, he actually said he respected the judges' decision, as well as in Iowa, later on. Both he and Joe Biden stated that Prop 8 was unfair, as it DID take away incumbent rights.
- She seems to think that "protecting" marriage from the gays is the most important thing. (It's fine if her opinion is that she's against gay marriage, but come on, why should she be so obsessed with it?) She has also implied that if gay marriage is allowed, maybe heterosexuals might choose gay marriage over "opposite marriage."

Yes, it's true that Obama has been silent on gay rights, but at least if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. The key thing is that although Obama might not support same-sex marriage that doesn't automatically put him on the same level as people like Maggie Gallagher. I understand if you don't believe in gay marriage, that's fine. (Many people don't believe in divorce, but you don't see them campaining to ban that.) The problem isn't necessarily people being against same-sex marriage, but rather that some people are so OBSESSED and extremely INVESTED in being against it.
Obama himself said once that although he prefers civil unions, gay marriage isn't anything to be frightened of. You don't see Obama actively trying to ban same-sex marriage in the different states. (unlike Rudy Giuliani) but to be honest the president has bigger issues like the economy, and the war in Iraq, and Health care reform etc.. to worry about.
So why was Prop 8 the most expensive campaign in the last November election (besides the presidential campaing itself)?? I suppose same-sex marriage is a bigger threat to our society than a crumbling economy, broken health-care system, corrupt businesses, poverty, war, terrorism, etc..

Oh, to clarify the last comment, when I wrote that the President has bigger issues to worry about, it didn't mean that those issues are important and that gay rights aren't important, what I meant was that even if you are against gay marriage, you have to admit that fixing the economy and getting out of Iraq are more important than banning gay marriage. If you think that gay marriage (or the gay "agenda" in general) is a bigger threat than our economic problems and so on, than you have very interesting priorities.

The woman is entitled to her opinion as is everyone else. But thanks to her opinion, she has now been appropriated by the far right. And she is allowing all this to gain validity to the outrage she has caused. Good for her if she wants to stand by her beliefs, but she must realize that others will not agree. So sweetie, if you can dish it out, you have to be able to take it. So in my opinion, she had the right to express her views. I also have the opinion that she does not have the right to interfere with marriage--she is clueless on that one. A book does not tell another what marriage is; only experience does that. Since she has no experience, her opinion carries no weight. The end of the 15 minutes.

"The Donald" and Miss California need to be sent to a Diversity Training class.
Him letting her keep her crown, and her continued comments against gay marriage only go to show that they do not understand the fight LGBT people have had to face in getting where we are today.
This war of words has been over equal rights for LGBT people, which this Country stands for.

Alas... Obama is not perfect! I have struggled with his view on equality for all people, I find it unacceptable, but we MUST keep trying to educate him and change his mind.
I strongly hope that one day he doesn't have to tell one of his daughters he can't make it to her wedding because he doesn't believe they have the right to marry...
Oh and Trump and Miss "Airhead"... Do you honestly believe he cares about her photos or her anti-gay sentiments... She obviously gave him what he wanted, what he looks for in a female, and I don't think for a second it was the right answer!!!

Wow! So pious and Christian--then the nude pics surfaced. Of course, I guess if you are like Ms Prejean, the rules are not for you, eh?
I have been with my spouse for almost three years now, and live a quiet life with her, not bothering anyone. I'm supposed to take a Christian bigot who lied about the nudie pics seriously. Personally I don't care either way--but it's fine for her to keep her crown on a falsehood, but my wanting to commit to my spouse is an abomination.
She's pissed that Perez Hilton called her on her hateful B.S.
