Sarah Palin and Colleges that Ban Homosexuality
Published October 21, 2009 @ 08:07AM PT

She may no longer be America's most well-known Governor, but Sarah Palin is still making the rounds as if she's the cream of the crop of the political world. In a few weeks she'll be releasing her book, "Going Rogue," and in the lead-up plans to do a number of speaking engagements -- from Milwaukee to Missouri.
But looking at her tour schedule, one might wonder why she's giving face time at a university that bans homosexuality, and treats LGBT students as if they were carriers of the plague. The pitbull with lipstick is due to speak at the College of the Ozarks in Fort Lookout, Missouri, and the college has an official handbook that says in big letters, 'We discriminate against LGBT people.'
Technically, the quote is, "College of the Ozarks is guided* by a long-standing traditional biblical worldview which reflects the understanding that human sexuality is a gift from God...Misuses of God’s gift will be understood to include, but not to be limited to sexual abuse, sexual harassment, sexual assault, heterosexual misconduct, homosexual conduct, or possession of pornographic materials."
Now, every private entity has their right to fill their codes of conduct with whatever bulls*it they want it filled with. But for an academic institution -- supposedly dedicated to higher learning, no less -- to still tie homosexuality in with sexual abuse and pornography, makes me think that the College of the Ozarks is still operating under an 1890s curriculum.
During last year's Vice Presidential debate, Sarah Palin said this in regards to gay rights: "I would be...tolerant of adults in America choosing their partners, choosing relationships that they deem best for themselves."
So much for Palin's tolerance. She'd rather support a university that disciplines students simply for holding the hand of someone with the same-sex.

I had to read this article and the links more than eight times each because of the absurdity of such insane ingrates. This is absolutely amazing had I not pissed myself laughing from reading this I would have possibly been rolling on the floor laughing my ass off until my head exploded. I can't believe this is a college. I thought Nortre Dame was absurd in its policies that create a toxic atmosphere for LGBT but if there was any college that tips that taco, The University of Outcast Crazies, I mean Ozarks certainly does so and it seem quite happily.

It's unfortunate that the College of the Ozarks justifies intolerance against LGBT people, in that their policy is against homosexual conduct. Sarah Palin is an intolerant conservative with an incorrect view of LGBT rights, so that intolerant college suits her. Private colleges and universities may enforce their own policies, but any policy against students on the basis of sexual orientation because of intolerance is unjustified.

God damn, I didn't think there were any schools left like that, except for catholic schools & the like.
All these people are breaking the constitution, where it states that all people are created with certain inalienable rights.

Well...Its possible that such inbred places like that are the only places that would tolerate miss pain...
Still...Seems to me that she should feel right at home in such an institute of lower learning...

I've always found that when anyone begins a sentence with "I have (fill in any group) friends, but..........." is not worthy of being trusted nor a friend to those they claim to be friends with.

You are right Dave she is no friend of Gays. She is intolerant of Gays. It is terrible that other gays can't attend the college of their choice because of their lifestyle.

this woman is beyond the most ignorant and scared of gay citizens. Imagine if she ever ran for President how many hate crimes would happen and she would probably support it . She should really just live in the middle if the woods where she cannot infect people with her ignorance and hateful mindset.

Everyone is so upset about Sarah Palin's speaking engagement but where were you when Obama tapped Rick Warren to give the invocation at the inauguration? Don't follow some main stream attack on Palin - call out ALL bigots or there will never be equality!!!!

Apparently you weren't paying attention! I very HIGH majority of us were extremely pissed about Obama's choice of Rick Warren.
It is also apparent that you don't follow this site too closely because many of us are very critical of President Obama on his record with the LGBT community thus far.

In the Bible it states that the same sex should not lay together. I being a Christian and a College of the Ozarks Student firmly stand behind the choice to reject the LGBT. With saying this that all people are CREATED with this immorral and unethical PROBLEM would mean that God has gone against his word and lied to us which is IMPOSSIBLE scientifically and ethically. I am very proud of who I am and to be a HIGHLY educated CofO undergraduate.

Educated enough to be a bigot but nothing more. How do you know god did not lie? You do not know, no one does? More importantly how do you know your religious leaders have not twisted the word of your god to fit their bias needs and used time, fear and guilt to ingrain those lies as unshakable truths.
Science and ethics have nothing to do with the christian god, both classes refute the idea of essence precedes existence, which is the idea of religion. In the bible especially the passages of of 1 Samuel 20, god itself blesses a same sex couple, their names are Johnathan and David. I recommend reading it. Its a great story in the bible and it shows that there is a wideness in gods mercy, love, and creation.
Think of this is it a sin to be a gay person and have a same sex spouse if you two never have sex? Then there is only love in that relationship and no lust. So is that love a sin, because the bible clearly says that love is not a sin and same sex couples love each other equally as much as opposite sex couples.
Finally how is a person being LGBT unethical. Ethics imply less of right or wrong and more on does it harm or not. If you look at same sex couples, such as the Depfox family, who they are, is not harmful to themselves, to their children, or to society, quite the opposite in fact. Jay is a police officer of the law and served his country before settling down with Byran. They pay their taxes and do many things for their neighborhood and community. So in on the basis of ethical understanding, especially in the realm of science, homosexuality, bisexuality, and transexuality does no harm so therefore it IS ethical.
As for being a problem... I agree being gay is a problem because of individuals such as yourself who are so close-minded to even the most remote of possibilities that your religious leaders, who you trust so much, could have lied to you to extort a disenfranchised group of innocent human beings. People who are just trying to live their lives without being oppressed or hated and been seen as equal as well as being seen as the normal committed, and compassionate individuals they are.

Hey Brad, too bad that being "highly educated" does absolutely nothing to prevent you from being an ignorant, intolerant, close-minded and bigoted jerk.

Mr. massengale...
If you were anywhere near as intelligent as you claim then you would know that sexualorientation isnt a choice and that theres no such thing as scientific proof of diety...
