Obama's Rick Warren Mea Culpa

Published January 12, 2009 @ 07:00AM PT

V. Gene RobinsonSo they're saying that this was planned well before an invitation was ever offered to Rick Warren to lead the convocation at President-Elect Barack Obama's Inauguration next Tuesday.  Word out today is that openly gay Episcopalian Bishop, V. Gene Robinson, will kick off the whole Inauguration shebang on Sunday, with a prayer at the Lincoln Memorial.

Robinson's words:

I am writing to tell you that President-Elect Obama and the Inaugural Committee have invited me to give the invocation at the opening event of the Inaugural Week activities, We are One, to be held at the Lincoln Memorial.

The smoothness of the Obama administration is something I'm never ceased to be amazed with, David Broder's moronic ramblings aside.  Is this action enough to appease LGBT activists upset over Pastor Rick Warren's participation in the Inauguration?

    Too little, Too late.

Why does there have to be a prayer of invocation at all?  It seems that it would be better to just skip the invocation, have no prayers and conduct a civil service.  Perhaps we could call it a civil inaguration (akin to a civil union) but that would be separate but equal.

It is great news, but having someing like Rick who spews hate still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It reminds me of the person who asked ,"if Rick Warren is okay, why not the Grand Duke of the KKK?".

This is a game of political chess!! The LGBT community was just given a cracker and told to stand in the corner and be quiet, just like a child. I am very disappointed in the new administration. They just DO NOT get it. Rick Warren is a bigot and a fundamentalist!! Talking to him is just like talking to a brick wall. He knows he has the power to influence anyone with all his blatant lies about the LGBT community. And unfortunately, he will get away with it because the LGBT community has always been very disposable. I'm not being negative, just speaking the truth!!
