because I want to be able to marry the person that I love and every needs equal rights under the law!
Rebecca Hodson @ 10:29AM PT Jun 26
I can't understand how a country that claims to have equal rights for all, a country that tells other countries to end their discrimination can then turn around and implement such a discriminatory piece of legislation against its own people. Equality should be for all, not just a select few.

I was very active in the 'No on 8' campaign in California. Even in some very conservative neighborhoods, such as Poway, CA, residents came out in droves to fight the ban on same-sex marriage. The ban will be overturned in every state, eventually (thank you younger generation).
In the meantime, marriage bans function as a very successful, divisive tactic to turn public attention away from wars, corrupt politicians, poverty and many other 'true' crimes. For example, when it served his political goals, Dick Cheney's daughter was not allowed on the public stage with her father. But now, he is in favor of his daughter's marriage. It's all about manipulation, show and 'give them circus'.
It's time Americans woke up and stopped being used. We have real problems to solve...gay marriage isn't one of them.

I should have the same rights as any other human- I pay taxes... kinda

Everyone should be able to marry whomever they wish. I think it is presumptuous to try deny the right to marry to a whole group of people. Furthermore, the institution of marriage has changed drastically throughout the history of the united states. Less than a century ago, it was illegal for european americans to marry african americans. We need to make changes in our society in order for us to grow as a society.

CALIFORNIA NEWS: Our AG Brown has sent an officla letter to the California Supreme Court, advising them formally of the decision by the IOWA Surpreme Court, that found there could be no discrimination in marriage, via the Iowa Constitution.

there are so many people out there who need to feel accepted as they are. and to give someone the chance to be married, is probably one of the most momentous steps we can take toward letting people feel accepted. as a gay myself, i want this world to accept me and to be happy. i can be if prop 8 is repealed

I have friends who are g/l/b/t and i think it's WRONG that they don't get the same rights as heteros. Why is it that is such a big deal about them marrying who they want to marry? They are citizens of this country, too. They're no different from anyone else, and they should have the same rights as anyone else. I don't understand why people with different sexuality/sexual identity than "the norm" (i use that term loosely) are treated any different. I mean... what's the big deal? It's little different than what has gone on throughout history... heck the ancient egyptians sometimes married a close relative to keep the bloodlines clean. That was a decision they made, and it was their right to make that decision. But g/l/b/t don't get a choice in who they prefer, that's just how they are, and it's bullshit to treat them different when it's as natural for them as it is for a hetero to prefer the opposite sex.

Happy to sign as I hate the fact that majorities often feel they can control everyone else and make them follow suit, having aspergers I know only too well whats its like not being allowed. Such discrimination is ludicrous, it would be saying like I could not of married my husband because I have aspergers and he doesn't... AsPlanet.info
