Require CENSUS BUREAU to Count ALL Marriages.
We’re not there yet — but we’re close.
When Census Bureau officials announced that they would waste time and money to literally erase married same-sex couples from the 2010 census, Task Force supporters were the first in line to tell them that all marriages should be counted.
Since then, we’ve won marriage equality battles in Vermont, Iowa, Maine and New Hampshire. And while we suffered a setback with the California Supreme Court’s decision to uphold Prop. 8, more than 18,000 couples were able to remain legally married. That means that the number of LGBT Americans whose relationships could literally be erased — despite marriage equality in these states — is growing every day.
They’ve already heard from many of us that this is unacceptable — and now they need to hear from you.
Please take a few minutes to tell the Census Bureau to Count Our Marriages.
Here’s why your action today is critical: Just last month, the Task Force met with representatives from the Department of Commerce to drive home the importance of counting same-sex marriages. They seemed genuinely open to making this change — but we need to keep up the pressure to help make sure it’s a top priority. We’ll then hand-deliver your signatures to the new Census Bureau director, who we expect will be confirmed any day now.
The census matters. And it matters more than you can imagine.
The 2010 census will be used by Congress and federal agencies to distribute money, government resources and even representation in Congress for a decade to come. And, without your action today, it could be yet another example of our own government refusing to recognize that same-sex relationships — even those that are recognized by state law — are comparable to those of any other couple.
Friend, we are so close to winning on this one. But we have to keep pushing for this change.
This decision can be overturned and the Census Bureau can begin building a wholly inclusive census. We can do this — but we need your help.
Please take action now — it’s time the census counts every marriage.
This is a one-time pledge that can be fulfilled any time.

Thank you for taking action!
Please take a few moments to urge everyone you know to sign the Count Our Marriages petition today. We need as many people as possible to sign this petition to the Census Bureau right now — especially because we have an administration that may actually be willing to listen.
