Be A Mentor To The Youth

It seems to me that our youth today spend a lot of time with computers vidio games and tv.   They have many interests and sometimes just have no one to introduce new things that they might want to learn or at least try.

As a former Scoutmaster for the BSA. I have had the honor to work with many young men to broaden their horizons.
One of my nephews is thinking about joining our armed forces to serve his country and further his education. He likes the outdoor activities such as camping, hiking and the like.

He recently wanted to learn about handling firearms and target shooting.
As I happen to also love the outdoors and hold an expert medal from the military in weapons, I took him on a camping trip far in the mountains of Washington State.  There I started to teach him the tremendous responsibility's
involved with handling firearms and the proper way to do so safely.  We each have talent's and hobbies of our own that we can teach the youth and aid in their positive growth. Be it on a organized group level or on a one to one basis.

Reflecting on our trip inspired this pledge to mentor the youth.
As Summer comes into full swing pledge to get involved with the youth.
Find out what their interest's are. Encourage and educate them. Introduce new
things to them. Guide and lead them. Be a positive influence in their lives.

  1. This is an ongoing pledge that should be fulfilled as often as possible.

Thanks to all who have signed commented and recruited.
I have got some feedback that some might be put-off shall we say by the photo of my nephew and I.

First let me state that I am still new to computers and the www.  My photo and video uploading capabilities are limited right now and that is the main reason I use photos from my albums on my pledges.

Now then that been shared,  This pledge is not to educate our youth about firearms. Although that might be a good one.
Think about that, if more parent's would teach their children how to be safe and responsible with and about guns I am sure there would be less accidents.

For those that might be concerned about the age of my nephew read the pledge again if you red it at all before assuming.  He is nearly 18.   There are many orgs. including BSA & NRA  that do in-fact educate the youth about firearms, Also many high schools have rifle teams.

However as the text clearly states this pledge is to mentor the youth in any way you can or choose.
    Aloha and Blessings,
    Walt.

Your words inspire, and I hope the need for these projects is clear to all global citizens; reform is the only possibility, from the ground, grassroots, youth up- with the help of great souls, like yours!  Hope you had a great Father's Day, All.  Thanx for the efforts, friends, your work here is impressive.  A cfew thoughtrs that relate   :)  An injustice to any is an injustice to all, "we, the people...", can't allow it.   For e.g., the fundamental thing taught by Jesus was destruction and murder are of no profit or pleasure, something almost all supposed Christians are anti-thetically opposed to, as is their gov't; and a gleaning from Native American teaching, et al, all life are needed threads in the fabric of life.  The more art is given, the more it is, as is life.  Very cool pledge, I like it; let's keep it growing; which is necessary.  A twig of poetree in support   :)

    Hustled and bustled,
Still, hands only put to heart,
    Beings, only art.

I look forward to hearing from you. For those interested :) "of or pertaining to the morning, day: relating to or happening in the morning or in the early part of the day (formal), (Mid-16th century, from late Latin matutinalis, from Matuta, goddess of the dawn.)".  Ciao, for now.

    Matutinally Yours,

    Hey Walt,

Glad to see you back, doing the things you do best!!  Great job Boo!!!!

When I lived in Tampa, I enjoyed volunteering for the City Parks & Recreation department.  I worked with the youth as a judge in the area "StoryTelling Contests" held yearly in Ybor City.  It was a wonderful experience and we had a lot of talented participants each year.  I miss it.

I spend a lot of time at an animal shelter & love talking to the young volunteers as we walk dogs together. It's wonderful to help keep their passion alive & see the world through their eyes. Thank you Walt...fantastic action!

Working on it.  Hoping to join Big Brothers/Big Sisters as soon as my little ones are a bit bigger, but in the meantime our family trips are often group trips with my cousins & soon with their friends too.

    Great pledge.  :)
